How can I get the job I want?

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Even with over thirty years of experience working with thousands of individuals and hundreds of companies, I realize that there is no simple answer to this question. I wish there were! But you’re not alone, so don’t despair. No matter what your skills are, how smart you are, or how hard you work, the answer to this question remains elusive. The best you can do is do your best! So go out there and compete to win the job you want.

I created ReadySet HIRED! to give you an edge over the competition. You might be thinking, “but if everyone follows the program every step of the way, how can I possibly get an edge?” The fact is, not everyone WILL read our advice. Furthermore, of those who do read it, most of them won’t follow it. It’s human nature to revert back to old habits. Those people pose no competitive threat for you. Why not be the one who goes against the crowd? Follow the program, give yourself an edge, and surpass the competition.

Most people don’t plan their job search. They don’t have an effective resume and don’t interview well. They don’t prepare appropriately and they aren’t practiced negotiators. Many people don’t even realize that they’re trapped themselves in a negative pattern of behaviour. Don’t let yourself fall into that pattern – and if you’re already there, it’s time to break free.

Can you believe that for every job interview I’ve conducted that went well for the candidate, there were six others that failed? Furthermore, would you believe that for most of them, it had nothing to do with their lack of job skills or work experience? It’s expected that you will do the right things in an interview. So, it’s not what you do right, but what you do wrong that makes the biggest difference. This holds true for your resume, interview, job offer negotiation, everything. Don’t leave your career up to chance – prepare wisely. If you wing it, you’ll blow it. I’ve seen this happen time and time again.

So make a commitment to yourself right now. You’re not going to be the one who loses to the competition – you ARE the competition! Make the most of what you’ve got, as well as what we’re giving you here to help you get ReadySet HIRED!
